My new living room hub??

Filed under: technorati — toobstar @ 12:11 am

My current 6 year old PC appears to have bit the dust and it might be time to upgrade.  As someone who takes pride in having the slowest (cheapest) thing that will do the job I’m seriously considering getting a mac mini.  The main reason being that they are completely silent (apart from the DVD player which apparently is quite noisy..).  The main downside for me is that as a DVD player apparently they aren’t much chop anyway.  As a media hub it’s no great gain either as I’ve already got XBMC going sweetly.  But as a file and web server it would be pretty sweet.  And if I could get my plutohome going on it as well that could be a clincher…

This looks pretty cool.  I’d like to set up something like this at home…  powerline network controlling a bunch lights… ooh yer.  Of course I chould just start with one of those hand clap light switches… nah.

If you’ve been following this debate over the last few months you’ll be no doubt amused to see the following site http://wearetheweb.org. Really well done and just a little weird.

Motorised pool lounge… wicked.

I’ve always been a sucker for retro design and these Tivoli’s are nice (although generally a rip off). This one seems to be ok price-wise though.

LINA trichrome light

I totally dig this.. but then I’m like why buy it when I could make it myself.  Just need a few LEDs, a couple of resistors and some resin translucent.  easy.
